SERVICES
Rehabilitation and Restorative Nursing
The department of Physical Therapy directs its attention to increasing strength and agility, and assuring that, even when physical restrictions are significant, the optimum level of function is encouraged. Through restorative care and rehabilitation, we work to maintain the highest possible quality of life for every resident. Whether it’s bathing, exercise, or dining, our team, which may include physical, occupational, and speech therapists as well as nursing staff, will invest the extra time and effort needed to encourage and facilitate independence.
Meal and Schedule Choices
Rest Haven – York offers many choices to its Residents. Dining schedules are determined by the individual. If a resident chooses to get an early start to the day, a continental breakfast is available. For those who are late risers a hot brunch is offered. All meals are served “restaurant style” in the dining rooms with a variety of menu selections to choose from. Residents preferring to eat in their rooms may do so if they choose. Of course, snacks are always available.
Recreation
Rest Haven – York offers residents the most versatile recreation program available. Our philosophy is founded on the belief that resident participation in daily planned activities promotes social stimulation, increases physical and mental functions, provides spiritual support, and encourages residents to continue to enjoy an active and productive life.
Spiritual Services
Rest Haven – York provides spiritual and religious services to all residents and their families. At Rest Haven – York, bible study and Sunday services are offered along with individual pastoral care administered by Rest Haven’s Spiritual Coordinator, Darvin Hopkins. In addition to these services, Darvin works in close contact with the individual’s family, church, synagogue, or mosque, to assure that each person’s unique spiritual needs are met. He also meets daily with residents and their families to offer prayer, support, and comfort on a one-to-one basis. Additionally, Darvin arranges for church groups of various denominations from the community to lead worship on Sundays.
Angels Program
Every resident at Rest Haven – York is partnered with an “Angel” with whom a special friendship is encouraged. The “Angels” provide cards, gifts, and treats for special occasions, birthdays, and holidays. These “Angels” also look in on their “Angel Resident” on a regular basis to maintain a sense of connection. The Rest Haven – York Angels program is a voluntary staff program. All staff members are invited to participate, but they are not required. The “Angels” at Rest Haven – York come from every department of the facility.
Alzheimer’s and Related Dementia Support Group
Rest Haven – York hosts an Alzheimer’s support group the first Saturday of every month (except July) from 9:00a.m.-10:30a.m. Friends, Families, Residents, and members of the community are invited to join this group which offers education and support for those dealing with the difficult diseases of Alzheimer’s and other related dementias. Rest Haven – York agrees with the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association and their mission statement: “To serve an ever-increasing number of families throughout the journey of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias in both urban and rural communities.” The facilitators of this group, Phyllis Seelig, Social Services, and Cathy Snelbaker, Restorative Nursing, have been trained by the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Pennsylvania Chapter and have access to their videos, books, and brochures to help you understand and better deal with Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
